The history of the Confederate Flag goes back to March 4 1861. It was used in the Civil War to separate the Union and the Confederate soldiers.This early version of the flag was created by William Thompson. The Confederate Flag was never meant to be a racist symbol, but people today think of it that way when they see it because the probably don't understand the meaning behind it. William Porcher Miles, the creator of the flag we know today, was inspired by the South Carolina flag it had a blue (upright) cross on a red field and fifteen stars on the cross the fifteen stars represent the fifteen slave states.
