Have you ever stared death in the eyes? These two characters have made several bad choices that led them to a scary or bad situation. When in these situations there are similarities and differences that the characters made to get out of it. These characters both react differently throughout the experience. The dangerous settings, conflict, and the main characters are contrasted and compared throughout the stories. The setting of these two stories are both deadly and dangerous. In “Being Prey”, Plumwood was in a marsh area where humans didn’t really go or belong. She was being “hunted” by a crocodile and she even thought she was the intruder. Even before Plumwood went into the marsh, the ranger said “don’t go into the main channel…… there are crocodiles”, this is implying it’s dangerous to be around there. In “A Sound of Thunder”, Eckel went back into the past, but before he did that Travis explained to Eckel how important it is to not step off the path he even said “ don’t go off it I repeat don’t go off it for any …show more content…

They both think that they know what’s best in a situation like when Travis was explaining things, Eckel was saying things like “why” and “ that’s not clear”. This is showing that Eckel is questioning Travis and is probably not going to listen to him. Plumwood also is like this but she did it more because she wanted to see beyond the point where she wasn’t aloud. These two characters both have an urge for adventure. No normal person would want to go shoot a dinosaur or go canoeing in a river full of crocodiles. That’s just a few compares and contrast of the two characters. As the reader you start to understand the dangers there are in life while reading these stories. In being “Being Prey” and “A Sound of Thunder” they both experience difficult situations that helps them understand the world a little better.
