Throughout history the human race has faced numerous struggles in conquest towards the refinement of civilization. Some struggles however, being so severe that nations had to join together to fight off forces that would otherwise enslave or exterminate a race of people. This is commonly seen during war while tyrants force their overruling reign upon individuals seeking for an entity to put their faith into. One of most know to date cases of this is when the Nazi Party set afoot a quest to conquer the Jewish people; igniting a spark in history that would set aflame a raging fire of war for five deprivating years. As the majority of stories portrayed during this time period are usually dramatically emphasized, and inaccurate. An example of inaccurateness relating to The Book Thief directly is when the Hubermans protected a Jew on multiple occasions in front of authority; which would result in a broadcasted death, but instead was passed as minor punishment purely to develop the plot-line. Although having multiple instances of played off situations, there is always one thing that these books get right, and that 's describing the hatred, suffering, and crying that people had to endure during this dark period in history. In war there are three sounds that every person can understand—crying, screaming, and laughing. All of which are essential for civilization being as they are the foundation of communication.
