Different cultures named constellations because as noted in the ancient times there was no television, internet, phone, etc. What every culture did have though, was the ability to see the sky. The Greek culture is responsible for most of the naming of the constellations. Astronomy also rose in different cultured in different times. Babylonians used the constellations to predict the positions of the Sun and the Moon, and eclipses. In a lot of different cultures, the constellations had an important part of their religion.
