The football that we know today started in 1922 when the American Professional Football Association change its name to the National Football League. The team with the best regular season record was the champion. in 1960 a second national football league was started to compete with the NFL. Eventually it ended up the being two conferences to make up the NFL, the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. The two implemented a system of playoff games and the champions of the two conferences went head to head in a game called the Superbowl.
By 1900, however, "sports" connoted athletic games played by professionals or highly trained amateurs under clearly spelled out rules with masses of paying spectators cheering their favorites in specially built stadia. Events themselves were now supported by businesses or institutions (the National League, the sporting goods firm of A.G. Spalding and Brothers, Yale University, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, for examples), reported in mass-circulation newspapers, and evaluated with

There were a number of both positive and negative changes at the time John Marshall lived. Born in 1755 in Germantown, John Marshall’s was greatly influenced by a series of events. One significant influence on his later life as a Supreme Court judge was the time he spent as a Revolutionary soldier. As a soldier, Marshall highly admired General George Washington and witnessed some of the greatest changes in American history. Some of the positive changes include the making of the Constitution of the United States.
SPM 140 Assignment #5 - Anthony Anzalone 1 The National Football League has a very rich history. There are many aspects of it that make it what it is today. Some of these aspects include the amount of teams in the league, the financial aspect both in terms of salary cap and media deals, and drug testing. The NFL was originally formed in 1920 in Canton, Ohio.
Flag football was invented as a modified version of the original tackle football sport, in order to allow individuals to partake in the game with a more minor chance of being injured through tackling during the play. The game consists of players attempting to score of touch downs by either running or throwing the ball across the field, and successfully crossing the marked end zone line. Before the year of 1905, football was a game played with the permission of physical contact upon players, as well as, with the lack of protective equipment during the game. However, that very year, after President Roosevelt took into account that football had caused 18 deaths and 159 severe injuries, he decided to take action, and implement certain rules
In 1920, the National Football League (NFL) was founded and found success throughout the years. As the NFL grew more popular, wealthy entrepreneurs sought to buy their own teams in new cities, expanding the league. NFL commissioner Bert Bell refused to expand the league as he was being accused of monopolizing the football industry. As a result, Lamar Hunt decided to create his own league, thus the American Football League (AFL) was founded in 1960, challenging the authority of the NFL.
Part I: The history behind the great American sport, football, is a very important subject to me as I have played the game since I was eight. As I continued playing while getting older, leagues got more competitive and injury seemed to be more prone to some than most. I can’t even recall the amount of times the game has been stopped due to someone getting the wind knocked out of them, head-to-head collisions, sometimes even broken bones. The slide about rules evolution within the College Football realm resonated with me due to the fact that during this time football was being played, people were dying from injuries and the numbers of deaths were only rising. In 1905, eighteen players died and in 1908, that number increased to thirty-three.
If American Football is an art, then its athletes paint with blood. This should surprise no one; the gridiron plays host to modernity’s most violent sport. In this unforgiving environment, it is all to common for former stars to flare out with career-ending injuries. As I kicked off my research on the National Football League (NFL), I intended to report on these injuries. With a premise on my mind and a paper in my sights, I headed to JumboSearch to begin my investigation.
The birth date of football is thought to be November of 1869. Initially, football was comprised of two games: running and kicking. The two games merged together and the ball began to slightly stretch out in order to accommodate more types of uses. Also, in the early games of football, there were 20 players on the field from each team and therefore it was more closely related to rugby. Currently, all footballs used by the NFL are made by Wilson.
American football originated from the sport, rugby, in Great Britain. Rugby was played with a spherical ball and did not allow players to run with it. Football was introduced to the United States around the 1860’s. At this time, the sport was not as popular in the United States and was played occasionally. In 1870, a football convention was held at the Rossin House Hotel in New York (Collins 4).

American football has quickly become America’s favorite sport, nothing like turning on the TV on a Saturday or Sunday and watching some football with friends or family. Whether you love it or hate it there is no denying that football has become one of the most popular sports on the planet. Despite the controversy surrounding the dangers of football, it has still developed into a multi-billion dollar industry. Pretty much everyone has heard of football or the stars that surround it, but few people know how football got its start. Football is believed to have descended from the ancient Greek game of harpaston.
The Victorian Era was the history of the United Kingdom during Queen Victoria’s reign from 1837 to 1901. The Victorian society was broken up into four different classes, Gentry, Upper Class, Middle Class, and Working Class. Depending on what class you were a part of determined the type of diversion you got to participate in. Of course, the higher classes were involved in a wider range of activities. The lower classes activities were limited and not as diverse.
