The world is sick, thousands upon thousands of people die every day from diseases and injuries that could easily be mended. Many of these people live in third world countries. The majority of which are war-torn and have an oppressive government. One charity that provides these people with aid is Medecins sans Frontieres, more commonly known as Doctors without Borders. They offer great relief worldwide to countries overwhelmed by natural disasters, famine, and outbreaks. Doctors without Borders saves countless lives every day. Medecins Sans Frontieres was founded in 1971 by a group of French journalists and doctors in response to the Nigerian Civil war that occurred from 1967 to 1970. These people believed that the needs of the people suffering held more importance than respect for any national border. Because of this eighty percent of all funding for Doctors without Borders is raised through private organizations as to keep away from any political affiliation. They do this to have to ability to speak freely and act swiftly, avoiding many biases that a country would face. The official website claims that there are more than seventy hospitals related to Doctors without Borders in the north, west, and central areas of the war-torn country. These clinics bring relief to all the people of this region, and in 2015 seven thousand people died because of the Syrian Civil war and thirty to forty percent of these people were women and children. However, the escalating violence is increasing faster than anyone expected with five staff members abducted, because of this some hospitals had to be shut down for security reasons.
