In 1952, Coretta was introduced to Martin Luther King Jr. By a good friend Mary Powell. In My Life, My Love, My Legacy Coretta spoke highly about Martin from their first encounter until his death. Coretta and Martin discussed everything together, after a conversation together she stated "His honesty was the quality that touched my heart most deeply."10 After being pressed on by her sister and getting to know Martin in depth, a year and four months later they married on June 18, 1953. To be expected, the life of being Martins wife would come with a few or maybe even many issues. One of the first events to take place for the newlyweds was on January 30, 1956, a bomb exploded on their porch. According to Coretta, "Since the Montgomery Bus Boycott had begun one month before, we had experienced a barrage of harassing phone calls..."11 The bombing on their porch just happen to be the first threat that was actually put in force.
