Despite facing extreme challenges when he was young, Corey Taylor became one of the most influential rock singers of modern rock and fights actively against drug and alcohol abuse. Corey Taylor had what most would call a troubled childhood. Taylor was born in in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 8, 1973 (Loudwire). It wouldn’t be until Taylor was 30 that he would finally meet his father. Before that, he was raised by his mother and later his grandmother. Corey Taylor lived a life that consisted of moving around and living with people he barely knew. His father left before he was born. He lived most of his young life with his mother and her many different boyfriends. Being homeless was not anything new to Taylor by the time he was a teenager. His mother and her boyfriend would fight, break up, and they would be out on the streets until it was time to move in with the next guy. Corey Taylor has done his fair share of influential music. Corey Taylor is the singer for hard rock band, Stone Sour, and heavy metal band, Slipknot. One of his most distinguishing qualities is his scream. Once, he even voiced an alien monster with his scream on popular BBC show, Doctor Who. While some metal bands have separate singers and screamers, Taylor does it all. He has made sure to stay faithful to both bands and has seen nothing but success from both. He would often send his grandmother his awards when albums or songs were successful. She eventually had to tell him to stop because her house was covered in accolades (Loudwire). Taylor’s name is known by not only his fans, but fans of other rock bands when they talk about his influence on him.
