Did you know that the book The Hunger Games, sold 100 million copies since 2008? Although The Hunger Games is an original idea, Suzzane Collins took heavy inspiration from many modern and historical stories and epics. The ideas and character designs found in The Hunger Games are there due to other current and historical fiction. The story The Hunger Games uses the Capitol to show a corrupt government that rules over others with drastic reaches in how lower classes are treated. These are all examples of how the corrupt government in this story uses different living conditions and the barbaric hunger games to show power and make the residents of the 12 districts feel powerless. This is important because it shows how the making of The Hunger Games uses plot points from other historical myths and events such as Theseus and The Minotaur. The way different social classes are treated and how they are strong together in the fictional story The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and in the informational text Patricians and Plebians by PBS. These connections are understandable while watching the movie to show a lack of rights and to show how the twelve districts are mistreated by the capitol. Both texts show that the lower class works for and makes goods and services for the higher classes.
