'Julie In Annie Iversion's Kayak'

In “Kayak”, Annie Iversion plays a very controlling mother who would do anything to see her son, Peter, succeed. She is driven to make her son live the life she planned out for him. When Peter enters college and meets Julie, a passionate environmental activist, Annie’s perfect vision comes becomes blurry. Peter starts falling in love Julie, who teaches him to stand up for himself and to gain more confidence. Annie becomes frustrated and constantly blames Julie for being a bad influence on Peter. For this costume design project, I have selected Annie, Peter (for two different costumes), and Julie. Annie is a suburban housewife in her late 50’s who is extremely protective over her son. She dreams of Peter graduating as a business major to work in his father’s firm. Her desires are for Peter to live a steady and successful life. Annie definitely loves Peter and wants the best for him. She dislikes Julie, Peter’s girlfriend, because of her dangerous actions and how they impact Peter. She also does like things that are out of her comfort zone. Julie interrupts Annie’s goals that she has already planned out for Peter. Just like her personality, she is clean and full of energy. Julie is a college student and Greenpeace activist. Her goal is to save the world. I can see Julie without any makeup and dressed in athletic wear every day. She is not the type to dress up. She is very natural and comfortable with herself. Her clothes is made 100% with organic material and eco-friendly. Julie does not care of what others think of her. The line of her clothes are straight and flow with the body. The color is dull, but since it is 100% reused organic maternal there is minimal color dye. The texture is soft. There is no exaggeration to Julie’s costume.
