Count Ruegan is the right-hand man to the main antagonist, Prince Humperdink, in the movie, “The Princess Bride”, which is written by William Goldman and directed by Rob Reiner. In this movie Count Ruegan is a dishonorable liar who does not have any respect toward others or their lives. Count Ruegan is a coward and runs from a fight in order to save his own life. He also loves torturing people and takes pleasure in doing so. In many ways Count Ruegan is the opposite of a good person. Count Ruegan has long brown hair almost going down to the shoulders and slightly curled at the ends with hints of grey. His beard is also brown flowing a little bit past his chin and fading to into a smoky color at the end. His face is pale and his eyes are slightly green in color. This is shown toward the end of the movie when he is being chased by inigo and Ruegan pulls out a knife and throws it at Inigo and says “You must be that little Spanish brat I taught a lesson to all those years ago. You've been chasing me your whole life only to fail now? I think that's about the worst thing I've ever heard.” This yet another example of Count Ruegans cruelty Another example we learn about Ruegan before the timeline of the movie happened is that he killed Inigoes father because he would pay only a tenth of the swords promised price. To kill anyone is dishonorable and also he lied to Inigoes father when they agreed on a promised price. Count Ruegan is an abysmal man and loves torturing people and delights in it. He says that his torture device called the machine “ It took [him] half a lifetime to invent it.” This shows that he was interested in torturing people for more than half of his life. When he is torturing Westley he asks “How [does] the machine make you feel”, with a calm and lifeless face. Count Ruegan is enthralled by the pain other people feel while being torchured and this make him a very cruel
