To begin, Bobby is a film that was released in 2006 and details the account of several characters before, during, and after the assassination of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy. The setting takes place in that of the 1960s Los Angeles. While Bobby is just a film that reaches to captures the essence of life in the 1960s, Bobby does offer a valid portrayal of life in the 1960s though the depiction of counterculture and use of drugs during the time period, The portrayal and efforts of the Vietnam War, and finally, the apparent issues and struggles of the Civil Rights movement for marginalized communities. Politically speaking, not many other conflict issues were met with such opposition as the war in Vietnam. It was during the 1960s that troops began to be sent to the country of Vietnam in great numbers which resulted in a mandatory draft to better help America’s war efforts. Some men even opposed to fight and fled the U.S. to escape the draft. In addition to dodging the draft, many anti-war protests took place on a steady basis thus demonstrating the nation’s true concerns and opposition to the war. In the film Bobby, a character is faced with the issue of serving in the war due to the draft. However, he avoids the conflict of Vietnam by a way of marriage.
