In thinking of what I would want to do my video on, I feel like a country music video would be the perfect platform to fight back against stereotypes. The scenario in my video would cover a lot of different viewpoints connected to country music. Country music has evolved since when it first originated. Early country music was called Hillbilly records, these were records geared for white southern rural people. It was directed to uneducated simple people. In class, we discussed the stereotypes involved with county music, such as only being for white people, talks about drinking beer, living on a ranch, and riding horses. I am of African American decent as well as German and Irish decent. I love that I am from different backgrounds because it makes me who I am. I am very proud of my heritage and embrace all that comes with it, good or bad. Country music is a big part of my life and I think it is bizarre that people see me differently for listening to country music. I do not fall into any of the stereotypes of country music except the fact that I am Christian. Although white males dominate the country music industry there are a lot of successful country artist that are people of color. My intention for the video is to break all the negative views of country music and show that this kind of music is for everyone no matter where you come from. Country music is not mean to exclude but to bring people of different cultures together. I would target this music video for everyone but mostly people of color. I think it is important for communities of color and people of different religions to see that country music is not degrading to their culture or religion but very uplifting and
