There are countless stereotypes that accompany each state. Californians are stereotyped as surfers. New Yorkers are labeled as rude and always in a hurry. I have lived in the wonderful state of Texas all my life and have heard many different stereotypes over the years. Some stereotypes are somewhat true while, a majority of the Texas labels is ridiculous. With this in mind, I will discuss a few of the most popular Texas stereotypes I’ve encountered.

One of my most memorable Texas stereotypes I have heard, is that all Texas women have big hair and wear flip flops all year. Contrary to popular belief, everybody in Texas does not live on a ranch, drive a truck or adore country music. The majority of Texans live in cities, and don't do much ranching. Although it is not uncommon to see someone riding a horse on the side of a city street, it is very rare to see a ranch in the city. Unfortunately, the small amount of ranches still in Texas has decreased over time due to the Texas drought. Also, Texans really are not much different than the rest of the U.S. as to what vehicles they drive. Pickup trucks may be popular in Texas, but not every person owns one. Many of my friends prefer small compact cars that are more efficient on fuel than a huge truck. In addition, as much as I personally love country music, many of my family and friends who live in Texas have different music interest. Southern hip hop and Tejano music have become very popular throughout our state over the last decade. Music Icons like Beyoncé and Selena who were born and raised in Texas, have contributed to this alternative music interest. In general, there is definitely a significant love for country music in Texas, but it's not as big as people think it
