The Pickaway Center continues to enjoy our Volunteer Opportunity at the Ross County Dog shelter. The dogs have gotten so use to us coming that they all stand waiting by their cage doors when we enter the back room. When the weather is nice we enjoy taking them for walks, playing fetch our just relaxing with them under the shade tree. We then will come in and make sure the dogs have plenty of fresh water and that their cage area has been cleaned out. Before leaving we make sure to pass out treats and give them one last hug before seeing them
In addition to sheer unfairness of the draft there were other problems associated with the system such as the bias that was seen within the local draft boards. During the Vietnam war there were over 4,050 local draft boards that consisted of privileged white men who were responsible for the selection and the deferment process of men who had been called to military service. Members of the boards were appointed by the president and they served a term of five years without being paid. Although the process of selecting men for the draft boards was highly official, when good volunteers were appointed and finished their term they were often persuaded by the Selective Service headquarters to remain on the board. Therefor many men who were on the boards were older and bias.
Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are institutions of higher education in the United States founded primarily for the education of African Americans. Prior to the mid-1960s, HBCUs were virtually the only institutions open to African Americans due to the vast majority of predominantly white institutions prohibiting qualified African Americans from acceptance during the time of segregation. There is a large group of people in society who consider it unappealing to see homeless people out panhandling in the medians of their streets. Multiple legal battles are presented every so often for those citizens that consider the homeless people blight or scourge. On the other hand, there is also another big group of people that see anti-panhandling laws as a violation of the first amendment. As Ross Jr. states, “In one week in May, opponents filed lawsuits challenging anti-panhandling laws in Houston; Pensacola, Fla; and the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy”(Ross Jr,). Leading citizens who attempt to throw most of these homeless people into the category of scourge are veering further away from the issue.

The debate between nature vs. nurture in this aspect cannot be blamed on a single element, instead both environment and genetics play a role in criminality of an idividual. The population of American jails has a high rate of individuals with mental disorders. Although, not everyone who has a mental disorder ends up in jail the vast majority of Americans who are incarcerated are likely to have inherited a mental disorder at some point in their life. At some point in American history, genes were said to be the sole reason a person became criminal however, this is not the case today.
