The movie “Crash” is riveting and thought provoking, you will be on the edge of your seat all the while entangled in a web of emotions as you are taken on a journey, where social and political collide that will leave you thinking after the credits role. The director/writer takes a tapestry of Blacks, Whites, Latinos and Asians to weave a story around racial tension that is built on assumptions, perceptions and redemption. There are some turn of events that will leave you wondering how that happened. Furthermore, each one of the main character’s perception of others or events is their reality whether seen by others as right or wrong. In human communication and interaction, it is evident there is principles like stereotyping and social roles that create a barrier that lead to misunderstanding.

We use social interactions with others to give purpose to life and make sense of it all. Also, we create social structures that suggests how we should behave. This is seen when Anthony (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) sees Jean (Sandra Bullock), clinch her purse as she walks with her husband, when she sees Anthony and his friend walking toward them. Later in an argument Jean tells her husband she should’ve have known it was going to happen, hinting she knew two suspicious looking black men in that neighborhood it is bound to happen. Furthermore, Anthony has knowledge of his social role, often educating his friend Peter (Lorenz Tate) on how black people put one another down with derogatory name calling, how white people only see the negative aspects of blacks and because the expectation is blacks are up to no good, so why should they be any
