Creative Skills Writing Assignment Public speaking¬—two words that evoke a wide range of emotions from people of all ages. These two words are likely a source of stress and anxiety to most students. Normally a confident public speaker, I was surprised at the mixed feelings I had regarding the presentation of my informative speech. Speech is a class that anyone planning to continue into a professional career needs to have taken. Once I selected my topic, The Crazy Horse Monument, I started researching. I ordered three books through my school’s library, and looked online for magazine articles relating to my topic. I realize now that I definitely should have started coming up with the parts of each source I wanted to use much earlier. I put the research off to the side, and it later caused me to scramble to finish my outline on time. I simply had not practiced enough. The informative speech was the first speech I was actually dreading giving. I felt prepared before the other two and was even excited to give them. This speech was the complete opposite, however. I was extremely nervous when I walked to the front of the room because I was worried that I would lose my train of thought during the speech. When I lost my train of thought during the conclusion, I went into panic mode. I eventually recovered, though, and got back into the rehearsed conclusion.
