Kristina and Trey gathered all of their little belongings mostly caring about the lockbox containing about $3,600 of the finest mexican glass a.k.a meth. Rushing out of their little apartment as soon as possible after seeing a wanted picture in the newspaper of kristina stealing money illegally with a fake id. She thought it was odd that she had very very little remorse about getting up and leaving without saying goodbye to her baby that wouldn't even recognize her, her mom which she stole her identity and money from. It didn't phase her and she kept loading what little belongings she had into Trey's mustang. They rushed onto the snowy freeway still tweaked as usual, but exhausted from no sleep like usual and running from the police and the mexican drug lord that they owe and weren't planning on paying back.
When everyone thinks about war they cannot picture in their mind what it would be like out on a battlefield with a bunch of good friends, fighting side by side. They cannot picture the horrible and nasty sights you will see on a battlefield of men dying, their bodies being shot everywhere or being blown to pieces. Maybe from a movie they might have seen a battle or war, but it’s not even close to the same. They are people that you care for and love that have just been killed, live and in front of your face. You cannot do anything but watch them suffer and try to keep fighting.
Their mindsets are now trained to kill whenever they feel that they are being threatened. During one of the lectures a former soldier by name of Dr.Alan Ferrell discussed their mindset and challenges. Dr. Ferrell detailed how being in war creates a bond with fellow soldiers which results in them only feeling connected to them ( Ferrell, 2017). Those men that feel this way will only result in them going back to fight in war in order to feel with purpose. It is also interesting how Dr. Azdell spoke on how every person has a purpose in life that
While history is full of examples depicting war and suffering; none match that of this current conflict. Endless streams of men have been sent to their death on the front. Not only that, but civilians have taken the brunt of the burden. Men, women, and children have been driven out of their homes
They see the Ground stained with blood and the carcasses left behind, Some are even burnt that nothing is left but their skeleton and some cloth that is stained on their rib cage and their cranium. Nothing left as the soldiers look onto no man's land but the horrific sight of what battle their was there and what battle their will be for their
It was what brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor. They died so as not to die of embarrassment.” (O’Brien 20). This quote could be interpreted as cowardice as it explains that men go to war so they are not looked down upon. However, the quote acknowledged that being perceived as cowardly and weak was a soldier's greatest fear, not the actual dangers and death that come with war.
For the common soldier, at least, war has the feel- the spiritual texture- of a great ghostly fog, thick and permanent. There is no clarity. Everything swirls.” (79). This quote explains that everything a soldier does has no recognition and that the things they do are out of spite and plain gut
Dear Mother, It’s has been indisputable here in the trenches, I’m in dire need of new socks. The doctors say they might have to amputate my foot if my trench foot gets any worse. Also if you could provide me with some next time you send me a package I would be beholden to you. In addition to the already gruesome situation, the rats have begun to eat the dead in no man’s land, and steal my bread when I’m not looking.
I am so alone in this war that I am fully ready to face Death with open arms. I remember how it used to be, trying to avoid Death at all costs. We were scared our first few times at the Front, but our troop quickly adjusted and we hardened against the brutality of battles we witnessed. We grew thicker skin and the Front became our dysfunctional home. I can remember the countless missions to the Front, setting barbed wire to slow the enemy, seeking the enemy’s position, and leading offensive attacks.
They trudged through the vast land, hopeful of assistance nearby. The sun harshly beat down on the troop without any second thoughts of sympathy. “Keep going! We’re almost there.” exclaimed Ernest Warner reassuringly, the leader of the troop.
In Jenny Allen's essay "The trouble with nature" humor is utilized in order to keep the readers attention and for the reader to be amused by the funny remarks that are made to help get the information through without boring the reader. Jenny Allen informs the reader on how to make people aware of the problem with nature. When she speaks of people going outside and nature comes in its basically saying even if you want to stay away from nature, it will always come around regardless. " Then, once they're in the country, they find that they needn't go outdoors to get close to nature" (Allen 1).
“So, what was life like before you met me?” Theodore asked Frank. Frank as very careful to only tell him about the last year or so of his life but didn’t mention anything about his old life. Frank stuttered “I-I was alone. Le-ft to die.
Another day was so much like the one before, and the many before that. He walked the house and grounds, slowly, letting time pass as it must. Alone, present but not present, for can one truly be there if no one knows of it? Like the saying he’d heard more than once over the unmeasured time of his existence: If a tree falls in the forest but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? He ambled through the back yard, pausing under the tree from which he’d been hanged, cursing his tormentors, vowing to haunt them for all time.
He looks at me solemnly "Any girl of your age would have been broken by now. And not just on the inside." "Any boy your age would've been hiding under a bed by now. " I retort with a sickly grin. "I highly doubt that, but perhaps some are already in hiding."
“I was woke up yesterday by explosions in a neighboring trench, we all went to investigate to find the fifth platoon all dead. Good god... I never would wish this on my family. This...is why I fight”. Now you tell me, does that not sound like someone who values the freedom of their homeland?
