Soldiers receiving a draft letter for war is typically a very hard and stressful time in their lives, especially the draft for Vietnam, the only draft America has had so far. Most of the men being drafted were young and unexperienced in war, making them hate it even more. They were taken and dropped into some of the worst circumstances the U.S. military has ever seen and expected to fight alongside people they had never even met before. As the war went on, the platoon members would bond, and have to watch their new friends get injured or die right in front of them, and wonder why they didn’t die as well. The harshness of the war made the soldiers look for any kind of escape from reality or way to make war easier, and they found drugs to be

The Disappearance of Edna Green The year was 1945. Edna Green had checked into the Smeverly Hills Hotel at 3:00 P.M. She was immediately greeted by a tall, fresh bellhop that looked to be about twenty. The words flew out of his mouth so fast that poor seventy-two year old Edna could not understand. “May I take your bags?”
what is it that makes us feel the need to escape? Today was a totally different day; for the first time the sky wasn't pitch black covered with smoke everywhere, and there was no noise coming from the fighter jets, or guns, there were people repairing the broken up houses and filling up the trenches that were once considered useless to fix. For the first time in a very long time old Jenking's bar was open, and there was noise of partying and laughter coming from there. "This could mean only one thing; the war was finally over" The war that took away so many lives, the war that separated people living on the same grounds with just a painted white boundary was finally over. "This meant I could finally cross that line and I could explore
Another day was so much like the one before, and the many before that. He walked the house and grounds, slowly, letting time pass as it must. Alone, present but not present, for can one truly be there if no one knows of it? Like the saying he’d heard more than once over the unmeasured time of his existence: If a tree falls in the forest but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? He ambled through the back yard, pausing under the tree from which he’d been hanged, cursing his tormentors, vowing to haunt them for all time.
She becomes torn about which identity she wishes to pursue because she is experimenting with so many identities at the same time. Middle school had not been easy for me or anyone really. I had no support from anyone, no one I could lean on, not my friends or even my mother. My male classmates would hurl insults at me on a daily, hourly basis. Those vultures were always circling above me, waiting for my guard to lower so they could attack with vile words and disdain. I would retaliate, however, never one to go down without a fight and I would retaliate when they would call me a “man,”a “dyke”.

My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.
It seemed as though my life was being dictated by others, more than before. The phrase “beauty lies in perfection” was always stored in my head and in order to “fit in”, I must act in a certain manner. At the age of 14, I was now in middle school. I had always been a shy person, which this transition harder for me to adjust too. I didn't want to hold a full conversation with anyone in my class unless they were the one to approach me.
“The girl was running. Running for her life, in the hope of finding a safe haven for her and her family. She never looks back, the only indication her father was still behind her was his ragged breathing above her head, forming puffs of air in this cold morning. She suddenly stumbles on a root, but her mother secures her fall with a small wisp of air. They lock hands, all three of them, and continue pushing themselves, desperately trying to find the others they lost on the way.
Towards becoming a writer -------------------------------- I promised myself that I will learn a new skill this year. I resolve to learn how to write with purpose.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
