Crime scene Overview:
For the sake of this paper, I will use the wall closest to the victims head as a north facing wall. The crime scene appears to be a bedroom with two possible entry points on the east and south side of the bedroom. As the investigator, I would cordon off the bedroom at the entry points so I could process the scene with minimal distractions and interruptions. Once I have taken control of the crime scene, I would start to evaluate the scene as I work my way to the victim. The room also appears to have two closets on both sides to what appears to be the main entrance on the east side of the room. These closets must be searched to establish security of the crime scene.
The room consist of multiple furniture items. On the north wall, there is a two drawer chest next to the head on the east side of the bed, one lamp on top of the two drawer chest, what appears to be an alarm clock on top of the two drawer chest, and a bed that is off center to the …show more content…

I would check the floor to identify if there are any traces of footsteps or drag marks (Ruslander, 2016). I would use the zone method to search the rest of the room (Howell, 1999) as seen in Figure 1 below. I would start with Zone 1 and work toward Zone 5 so I don’t disrupt any evidence by moving back and forth between the zones. In Zone 1, I would start with checking the closet doors for any blood splatter. I would then check inside the closets for any evidence that may assist with the investigation. In Zone 2, I would check each of the drawers of the chest for any out of place items. In Zone 3, I would check the TV stand for any items that may be stored under the TV. In Zone 4, I would look under the bed for items that may have fallen off the victim or suspect that may have gotten pushed underneath.
