Understanding the extent and nature of criminal victimization is key to the start of an understanding of the victimization process (Wallace & Roberson, 2015, p. 60). The study of crime victimization has come a long way from when it first came about, around the 1920’s. Today, crime victimization can be studied in a number of ways. There are two wide categories which methods for measuring crime and victimization fall under. Those categories are official data which is also known as, “official statistics” and other, which stands for, “other reports” (Fox, 2015, Slide 2). Some ways to measure crime are best for the times we are living in, and some are problematic for many reasons.
