The Crimean War (1853-1856) By: Mark Tutelya The Crimean War was one of the most deadly war in history that had some lasting and big consequences, yet one of the least mentioned wars. The Crimean war had many contributors such as France, Britain, The Ottomans (including the Turkish and the Balkans), Sardinia, and Russia, which essentially started by the ruler, Tsar Nicholas I, who wanted to expand his empire into Europe and to get more control and power. There were many events that led up to the Crimean War, such as conflicts between the Catholic and the Greek Orthodox church, the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Nicholas I wanting to expand his empire, and Britain and France fearing that Russia would become powerful and they would lose power. There were many consequences from the Crimean War that ranged from nearly half a million lives to contributing to starting the first World War. One of the main causes for the Crimean War was Tsar Nicholas I wanting to expand his empire into Europe, so that he could get more control and power. However, the most important battles happened in the peninsula of Crimea, where the Allies tried to take over the Russian city of Sevastopol. When the French and British fleets came to the Black Sea, they set sail for Crimea. On September 14, 1854 the french and british have arrived in northern Crimea. However, instead of landing at a port, the French and British landed at a beach. The french and British army took around five days to unload all the soldiers and equipment off of the ships. After the two armies were on shore, they had to wait six days until they would start to move south, because the two armies were suffering from dysentery and
