Yes murders deserve to have a layers, because defense lawyer try to find the humanity in the people he represent, no matter what they may have done. No matter what they may have done, aren't wicked. They are damaged, deprived or in distress. Their crimes can be understood as the products of awful lives, or of being young, hot-headed and lacking in judgment, or of not having the mental wherewithal to know what they were doing. I think that there is always a story. And I wouldn’t change the anything in justice system, just because everything has to be fair.
