Interior of the synagogue at Dura-Europos, Syria- The Jewish house of worship has an expansive sequence of mural paintings. The main room contains a niche for the Torah in the middle of one long wall. Mural paintings including episodes from the Torah cover the rest of the wall surfaces. For the most part, the murals lack action. Stories are told through gestures, but the figures seem to lack emotion, volume, and shape.
In the article “Religions: The Basics” by Malory Nye talks about female writers, inequality and the distinction between males and females. In the article it mentioned how the term Androcentricism assumes that the male’s perspective and experiences are the most vital and key point of reference. I agree with Mary Daly that the concept of belief in a male deity leads to profound sexual inequalities. The reason I agree with Mary Daly is due to the fact there is a lot of gender differences and that women are viewed as inferior, while men are more superior. It is surprising that in western culture, they can’t go a day without woman-male distinction.
Jack Tupler Western Civilization 4/2/2024 This paper will go over two sources from the World War I time period. The First is Good-bye To All That, an autobiography written by Robert Graves about his experience and life during the Great War. The second source is The Great War: The First Phase written by Frank H. Simmonds is a historical textbook that analyzes the early stages of the war. During a time period that was present around 400 years ago, many colonists sought religious and economic freedom and decided to break away from the British government to form an independent nation. This area they inhabited is now called, the United States. In this time of great change, the colonists had to completely formulate a new government. Since one of the major motives for breaking off of Britain was for freedom of religion, it ended up becoming a good base for the building up of a new government. Religion gave many advantages to the growth of government through unifying the people, establishing power, and constructing order.
Throughout the Nazi regime in Europe from 1943 to 1945, many Jews opposed Hitler’s policies by engaging in acts of physical, mental and spiritual resistance. Many non-Jews also stood by the Jews in opposing Hitler’s government and his policies. These people helped many Jews escape ghettos and concentration camps. However, there were also many Jewish people who did not resist the Nazi’s and fell victim to their rule. Many non-Jews did not help the Jewish people and simply followed the regime by ignoring the atrocities that the Jews faced throughout the Nazi regime.
Human beings needs to connect with other people in order to function naturally in the society. Communities can be found in different backgrounds, cultures and countries around the world. Institution, families, social clubs and group that shares common interest are part of a community. Communities have resources to support each other and provide essentials for individuals to be successful in the society. Having stronger sense of community benefits the contemporary society; community provides support from others, guidance and less isolation to the individuals in the society.
Ordinarily, community is a basis of Judaism, and the Jewish religion educates people on how to work together
If the definition of community is “A group of people living together in one place, especially one practicing common ownership” (Oxford English Dictionary or even simply “A body of nations or states unified by common interests” (Oxford English Dictionary), then this group of merging families aren’t a community. They are working separately together, and that’s bound for failure. A community must work together and listen to one another to even consider themselves a community. Otherwise, they’re just a group of people
Embracing community is very similar to embracing equality as your community may not be considered equal but in developing knowledge of your community you will develop equality when thinking of your community. The Declaration of Independence declared equality, though the constitution did not and it was not embraced into the constitution until it was added in the fourteenth amendment (Smith). The early years of the United State government had little experience with controlling equality in small scale communities. For example, in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Maycomb community did not embrace those of color into many public settings and they did not receive equal rights in the community. We are called now to embrace everyone in our communities and treat them equally while also including them in what we do as a community.
The spiritual atmosphere is of the most importance when considering a new place to live, a new school to attend, and a new church family. Moving from the modestly liberal state of Virginia to Madison, Alabama, it made the search for a strong spiritual environment very easily accessible. From attending private school, to choosing a new congregation at which to attend, my parents have made the best decision. Church family is very important in a person’s spiritual walk. If one has a strong church family, he or she will be able to rely on the group of
However, the most essential aspect of living in Natick has been my church. Only a five-minute drive away, the church, in additional to its spiritual significance, has been the social and cultural hub for most of my life. There, our youth group has stuck together for the last seventeen

The word community is explained by the Oxford Dictionary as “people of a district or country considered collectively, especially in the context of social values and responsibilities; society.” A community is determined by shared characteristics which could include location, culture, race, or beliefs. The common characteristics of a community can also dictate who belongs and who does not. Maycomb County was a community with a defined structure.
