Critical inquiry is the process of gathering and evaluating information, ideas, and assumptions from multiple perspectives to produce well-reasoned analysis and understanding that leads to new ideas, applications and questions. Critical inquiry is more than what is listed above, it is also possessing the ability to assess pieces of writing and use them within your own writing. I think the best example of my writing that supports this is my in-class writing “Seattle Versus the Homeless.” All over the essay, I included poll numbers from various sources, and statements from credible sources, like the mayor of Seattle. This was something I found a bit challenging because it was difficult finding unbiased and trustworthy polls and statements.

The general argument made by Fareed Zakaria in his article, ‘’We Can’t All Be Math Nerds and Science Geeks is that educational systems should not only focus on STEM courses and deemphasize the humanities. Zakaria writes, ‘’Yes, science and technology are crucial components of this education, but so are English and philosophy.’’ Zakaria was suggesting that STEM Courses like (science, technology, engineering, and math) are just as important as humanities including English and philosophy. Critical thinking is relevant in a few different aspects of life. For example, critical thinking can be applied to school and learning. There are people who support using different aspects of critical thinking in students curriculum. Laura Hummell said, "Critical thinking skill development is crucial in elementary schools. Students who are allowed to explore, empathize, question, hypothesize, conceptualize, experiment, and evaluate throughout their own learning become productive community members" (Hummell 5).
It is clear that critical thinking is not a self-corrective because we need external input of idea, opinions, active discussion and exchange of knowledge to continuously refresh our mind, to sharpen our cognition, and to view things from new perspectives. Meanwhile, Scriven and Paul also stated that critical thinker strive never to think simplistically about complicated issues but Socrates encourages us to analyze issue through a holistic and appropriate

Critical thinking is a part of every day life in order to become a fair-minded thinker. Within the next couple of years I am hoping to become an educator for future Surgical Technologist in our hospital. We as adults working in the medical field have to you utilize this on a daily basis, but being human we all fall short to often. The ability to analyze a concept objectively, considering the facts and differing perspectives to reach a sound, logical conclusion is thinking critically (Mendes, 2017).
Christopher Hitchens stated, “The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks, but in how it thinks.” How someone chooses to process their thoughts and curiosities will eventually guide them to forming a substantial and unique opinion of their own. Critical thinking is a way that a person can transform to an outside of the box thinker. Often times in society, especially with the progression of technology we have become accustomed to not thinking for ourselves, due to the lack of reason to think on our own when we have social media, government officials, and political candidates constantly filling our brains with their own personal versions. Critical thinking is about not following the popular opinion or what your friends and
Critical thinking is an important skill in academics and life. It is difficult because it requires an active mind, and as a result there are many natural mental barriers to utilizing it. A time when critical thinking was challenging for me was when I was debating the necessity of going to college with a close friend. This was in sophomore year when we were beginning to seriously contemplate our future lives after high school. In this debate, I took the side that college was necessary in order to be successful in life; my friend believed there were other paths one could take and still achieve the same level of success through other avenues like trade schools or apprenticeships.

In my experience, what Martin Luther King Jr. calls “thinking intensively and critically” is very different from what my high school teachers called “critical thinking”, most especially by the way Dr. King links intelligence and learning to the development of character, that is, growth as a person. Too often in my past, teachers mentioned critical thinking only as a mental activity of seeing through stereotypes, evaluating both sides of issues and understanding and accepting differences. As worthwhile as these are, I have found that high level thinking without having a more enlightened character is simply inadequate. That was a recent, very positive experience with two very nice people of different faiths. As much as we had been taught in class about prejudice, the recent terrorists attacks across the world bred a good deal of ill-will in
