Helen Frost wrote the book Diamond Willow. Not only is she a writer, but a poet as well. She won the Michael L. Pritz Award and the Indiana’s Authors Award. She is not a very famous author, and she hasn’t written many books. A few other books that she has written are Crossing Stones, Hidden, and Step Gently Out. Some of the poems she has written are Sweep Up the Sun and Among a Thousand Fireflies. She was born on March 4, 1949 in South Dakota. She graduated from Syracuse University and got a degree in Elementary Education. In 1944, she got her master’s degrees in English at Indiana University. The lead dog was Roxy. Roxy was smartest dog and the best leader they had. It started to get a little colder and the dogs needed a rest. Willow stopped them and they took a little break. Then it started to snow so Willow decided to start back up again. It was a long ride to her grandparents but she made it. She unhooked the dogs and walked inside. Her grandma asked where Willow’s dad was and she told her grandma that she came alone. Her grandma got really upset with her and told her that it was too dangerous for her to be out there all alone with the dogs. Willow had some supper and some hot chocolate and feed the dogs. After they were done eating, she was going to head back home. Willow gave her a blanket and some mittens to keep warm. The dogs got hooked up and they started their way back home. The snow started to come down faster, a mile into her journey. Willow started to have trouble seeing the path. She was relying on Roxy to stay on the right path so they wouldn’t get lost. The snow storm got way worse and Willow was still going. She was going really fast and couldn’t see and she hit a tree branch and crashed the sled. Willow got thrown from the sled.
