Before the roaring 20s women had the jobs such as staying home and taking care of children,making food for the family,cleaning etc. The changing role of women really changed because the work they did during the war. In the 1920s the number of working women increased by 25%, that’s crazy how the number of working women increased by a big 25%. Another big change that happened during the 1920s was that women were given something that they worked very hard to get….VOTING. In the 1920s there was a new type of women known as the Flappers.
What do intelligence tests, advertising circulars, and accounts of people impacted by the Great Depression have in common? They represent some of the main concerns in the United States during the 1920s though the late 1930s. The Roaring 20s was concerned mostly with consumerism and immigration issues, while the major question in the 1930s was how to survive the Great Depression. These sources paint a picture of some of the underlying issues that the United States dealt with when it went from a booming consumer nation teeming with immigrants to a nation with over 20% of its people unemployed.
Many portray the 1920s as a time of lighthearted leisure and prosperity. When in fact this period consisted of significant economic , social and cultural conflicts. Technological innovations sparked the economy and life post war was significantly different with the introduction to what we know as the “New women” the new women also sparked many social conflicts. Along with the New women tension between religion and science also sparked many important conflicts during the time we know as the Jazz Age.
Many important events evolved in the roaring twenties. The Birth Control movement had impeccable Kairos. In 1920, women suffrage had finally succeeded and brought about the 19th amendment to the U.S. constitution. The idea of the “ideal” woman was beginning to change. The social rules were changing for women and this was the time to go for contraception.
Throughout the history of America, we as a nation have gone through many unique time periods. Whether it was during the colonial times where we fought for revolution or during the age of Manifest Destiny where we migrated West to fulfill our destiny or when we were battling through the Great Depression to fix and stabilize our economy all of these different times we have been through still bears an impact on our society as a whole today. A time period in specific I will be talking about is the Roaring 20s. The 1920s was an era of social and political change which sent America into the modern age, where for the first time Americans actually lived more in cities than farms. Along with that America itself doubled their total wealth in the span
The Roaring Twenties, characterized as a progressive era toward changes and advances, it was a start for freedom and independence for women. Women gained political power by gaining the right to vote. They changed their traditional way to be, way to act and dress to gain respect, and the liberty of independence. Society had different ways of ideals and the ways women were willing to do were disapproved of, and it was wrong for lots of different people, including women from the older generation. In the 1920’s women went through a lot of changes that made them a free spirit, changes that made them what they are now and having the liberty of being independent.
Through the 1920s, America really started blooming as an economic powerhouse and started new cultural norms as known the famous phrase: “the roaring 20s”. The move from traditional to modern which was supported by consumerism, technology, and culture caused a mass society. Mass society was a brand-new idea in the 20s and cause wrestling about modernity because no one knew if it would work because society was already used to having separate classes for many many years before. The newly developed idea of consumerism allowed for the lower classes to hide their economic status much easier than before. The new advances in technology sets the same standards for everyone in society to reach so they all look alike.

The 1920's was know as the Roaring 20's. It was a time when American filled their time with social activities and consumerism. American did more of everything and lived beyond their economic means. It was a time of progress and fun. During this period American enjoyed things like the automobile, sports, music, dance, and drinking.
The 1920s carried much change in society. Some of these changes were more rights for women, jazz music, and prohibition. The people of the 1920s were disillusioned by society lacking in idealism and vision, sense of personal alienation, and Americans were obsessed with materialism and outmoded moral values (The Roaring Twenties).Cultural changes were strongly influenced by the destruction of World War I ending 1918. America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.

Americans at the time began to discover new things to do and new ways to act. They began to partake in new activities and created new things to do. Prior to the Roaring Twenties, America was in a Victorian era. Women wore dresses that were floor-length, their hair was long and premarital sex was almost non-existent. During the 1920’s however, some women became what are known as “flappers”.

The 1920s introduced the new age of Hollywood stars and the radio. It revolutionized how women were seen in American culture and brought sports to the forefront.
