During the Vietnam War, another war broke out known as the Laotian Civil War. An organization and communist political movement called “Pathet Lao” from North Vietnam was trying to overthrow the Royal Lao Government. While this was happening the CIA recruited the Hmong led by general Vang Pao, (who were an ancient hill-tribe from the mountains of Laos) as a secret alliance, to help aid the Royal Lao Government. Retracing back to my ethnic history, Hmong people was a minority group that originally originated in China and slowly spread to Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, United States, Australia, and France. It was never identified if the Hmong people had their own country or if they were part of the Chinese lineage whom had become a minority group of their own with its own language and culture. It is found that, the Hmong cultural last names consist of 18 different last names and were very similar to the Chinese last names. As to that there are still Hmong people who live in China mainland. For this reason, it had been a belief that the Hmong cultural did exist from China and had ancestors who were monarchs.
“Choua”, which is my name, means wind in Hmong. Hmong, an Asian ethnicity who does not have a “land” or “home” to call. Many of us come from Laos or areas nearby like Thailand. In the Hmong culture, there are varieties of religions in the community, but two of the most common ones are animism and Christianity. Hmong Culture The Hmong primarily originated from the “mountainous areas of China, Burma, Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos” (Purnell, 2014, pg. 236) and immigrated to the United States in 1975 after the Vietnam War. Primarily refugees from Laos, the Hmong people began immigrating to the United States in large numbers “after communist forces came to power in their native country.” (Bankston, 2014, pg. 332) Mainly settling in California, the Hmong began to be dispersed by American refugee settlement agencies across the country in the 1980s, also settling in Wisconsin and Michigan.

The world is diverse and filled with so many different types of cultures. Many are specific for a certain country or often seen worldwide. It also depends on their history. For example, Thailand is a unique country with a cultured filled history. They can be compared and contrasted with other cultures, for example,the U.S. culture.
Chinese immigrants experience much more hardship compared with what they contribute to the society. It seems that every immigrant needs to suffer a lot of bias and hardship in America because of cultural difference. Culture shock leads to many misunderstandings and causes conflicts. That is easy to understand. However, Chinese immigrants are treated unfairly because more complex reasons.
I was born and raised up in South Korea for twenty years, and thus I know Korean culture very well. I also understand American culture as well, because I lived and worked with Americans for four years. I decided to choose this topic, because in my experience, I have noticed a lots of differences between Korean culture and American culture; for example how Korean or American treat older people, how Korean or American act in the gym, and about the differences in foods. I picked those subjects because I have experienced the Koreans and Americans side well enough to understand both and I’m currently in South Korea with military men and women. I have Korean friends and American friends spending time together sometimes, and then I can observes differences and similarities.

Second, the form they express their emotions and how they communicate with each other change based on their culture. The way they address the counterpart is different. While Asians are more formal using family names or titles when they talk to the other part, Americans are more informal since the use first names looking to be more friendly (Ready and Tesseman, 2009). Another difference is the form they develop the negotiations changes. For example, Asians are not that not linear, that means they may combine the negotiation with type of events, while Americans are linear, they want to focus on one aspect ate the time, so they do not have events (Ready and Tessema, 2009).
