In the book, The Troubled Crusade: American Education 1945-1980 by Diane Ravitch it shows the fight to have equality in education especially in the chapters of Race and Education: The Brown Decision and Race and Education: Social Science and Law. Ravitch shows the injustice in which blacks were treated and the segregated system seemed impossible to escape, especially in the South. The couple was travelling from Jamestown to the capital city of Flaxtown when a truck transporting bovines to a local abattoir lost control and veered onto the wrong side of the road before coming to rest. In the article, “Quarrel over Common Core: A Pennsylvania Primer” by Randy Kraft (2014), Common Core and the controversy surrounding it are discussed heavily. Kraft’s thesis is to inform the audience about Common Core and explain, impartially, the arguments for and against it. In 2010, Pennsylvania took on the Common Core Standards. These standards were put in place to ensure that students of Pennsylvania were on the same academic level by graduation, and enable them to be better equipped to compete in a global marketplace (p. 1).
Would you be happy if you had received an A in your class? Do you feel that you truly learned enough to deserve that perfect A? Students who are in either high school or college are forgetting the true meaning of having knowledge and being able to learn. People think that how well they perform in the classroom will justify how well the teacher teaches their students but necessary that might not always be that way. In Brent Staples piece, “Why Colleges Shower their Students with A’s”, he argues that there must be an end to the grade Inflation and continues by examining for a possible solution by using language techniques to emphasize the main point.
Methods of Research I began my study into this issue after reading about the proposed bill on the Home School Legal Defense Association’s (HSLDA) website. I began by reading the proposed bill’s re-wording and verifying what the new changes would mean to homeschooling parents in Iowa. I then conducted a questionnaire of my own among homeschooling families regarding the way their state handles homeschool regulations, and lastly, I compiled a list of resources including: results from testing homeschooled students vs public schooled students, curriculum choices available to homeschooling families, and a historical look at homeschooled students who have vastly contributed to our country’s rich history. Residential schools are a shameful part of Canadian history and have had negative long-term effects on Indigenous Canadians. This investigation will be focusing on the long term socio-economic effects on the Indigenous population of Canada that are evident even today, such as substance abuse, the relationship between the criminal justice system and Indigenous people and communities and finally the financial situations and living conditions of people on reserves. An estimated 150,000 Indigenous children attended residential school. The schools were run by Christian missionaries, primarily Roman Catholics and Anglicans.
Imagine being ripped apart from family members, culture, tradition, and labelled a savage that needs to be educated. Imagine constantly facing punishment at school for being one’s self. Unfortunately, these events were faced head on for many First Nations people living in Canada in the late 20th century. These First Nations people were the victims of an extensive school system set up by the government to eradicate Aboriginal culture across Canada and to assimilate them into what was considered a mainstream society.

It is simply a fact that public schools have a more vast set of options of learning than homeschooling. Depending upon the school you can have classes from artistry, advanced sciences, advanced math, advanced tech classes, advanced english/literature, philosophy, etc. This allows more freedom in what the student wants to learn, while still including the necessary classes. The schooling years of a person are absolutely detrimental to whether or not that person will grow up to be prosperous and happy in life. Therefore, the method of schooling is an incredibly important topic of debate. Modern homeschooling began with John Holt, an educational theorist, who began having concerns about the mechanical-like characteristics of students who went through the public school system. A large motivator for people wanting to homeschool was having increased religious freedom, as public schools have become more and more secular and worldly.
Home schooling is a trending concept that is popular mostly in US and around the world. Home schooling preferred often by the parents that have environmental concerns, religious beliefs, lack of confidence to the education quality of the public and private schools and inadequacy of curriculum. They believe that they can give better education to their children at home. According to Jamie Martin (Homeschooling 101: What Is Homeschooling, 2012), home schooling began to grow in the 1970s, when popular writers and researchers such as John Holt and Dorothy and Raymond Moore wrote about the educational reforms and they alleged that home schooling is a valid educational alternative.
Residential schools were a boarding school that was set up for the purpose of teaching and assimilating aboriginal children in the 1880s. These schools were an important part of Canada’s history because they treated aboriginals as themselves, as aboriginal people, and their culture was inferior to Canadians, although at the time they thought they were doing the aboriginals good. Some would argue that residential schools were a good thing, that they benefited the aboriginal people and that they didn 't do them wrong while others still believe that residential schools did more harm than good to these students lives and wellbeing. Most of these families include a breadwinner and a stay-at-home parent who does most of the teaching, although there are single parent families and dual career families who home school.” according to Teach Target. Personally, I believe that homeschooling isn’t the best option for kids; they rather go to school to help them with their social life, their level of understanding and to help them get inspired by the surroundings. There are a lot of reasons why parents should stop homeschooling their children and send them to public or private schools.
