The Magician’s Nephew “Curiosity is a kernel of the forbidden fruit, which still sticketh in the throat of a natural man, sometimes to the danger of his choking.” Thomas Fuller. In the story, The Magician’s Nephew, Digory lets his curiosity overtake and “choke” him. Polly and Digory should not have explored the other pools because of three negative effects it caused. It was highly dangerous, it caused strong conflict, and it brought tremendous harm. First of all exploring the pools was highly dangerous. Polly and Digory knew almost nothing about the pools. Therefore they took a huge risk in exploring them. Along with knowing near to nothing about the pools, they also possessed no information about the world beyond gleaming ripples. Unlike Digory, Polly did not possess a strong desire to explore the pools. She much wanted to return home instead. Polly also gained a firm dislike of the world they traveled to. Digory needed to take this into a stronger consideration and maybe even leave because of it. These two happenings caused great arguments between the children and both feeling and arms received pain. The terrible conflict produced by exploring the pools, caused much unnecessary pain and sadness. Along with causing strong conflict, exploring the pools also brought about tremendous harm. When the children ventured into the world of Charn, Digory made a terrible mistake by ringing a bell, therefore awakening a great evil. The evil was a strong and cruel woman, who possessed much hatred in her heart. Polly and Digory accidently brought this Witch into the Wood between the world and then their world. This caused great havoc and excitement in the cold bleak streets of London. It caused damage on the streets and harm on people. The children also transported the Witch with them into Narnia. Before they arrived, Narnia was a perfect world in the making. Because of their decision to explore the pools they ruined the perfect world and caused harm unto it.
