John and Julie did provide both same and different perspectives for their family. For example, both thought that they are worried about their children’s future and how the economy will make their children struggle with finding a good and stable job. Both parents want their children to be successful. The difference between John and Julie is that they both cope with their worries differently. John talks to his wife about the struggles by putting all of the stress on her. John does not have to deal with the financial stress of the family, Julie deals with that burden all on her own. But Julie copes by talking to her mother and praying to god and asking for help while John takes a more laid back approach.

In Cut Adrift, Gina Calafato is the one who has the burden of the financials, which Julie experiences in her own family. Julie is the one who worries the most about the financials and John does not have to deal with the burden, just like Sam in the book. Compared to Gina in the book Julie experiences the same worries and carries the burden around. John does not have to face the reality and is protected from the financial burden like Sam was.
b. Which type of coping method did your interviewees use: Downscaling, Upscaling, Holding On, Turning to Religion?
As for coping methods I believe John experiences the idea of Holding On while Julie experiences Turning to Religion. But when it comes to coping with the worries John is similar to Sam because they both have a laid back personality and do not really stress about it because their wives do the stressing for them. As for Julie she has the similar coping mechanisms like Laeta Faleau experiences in the book because they both pray to God and ask him for help. When Julie is in need of some help she seeks God out just like the Faleau family did.
c. In what ways do you think their social class ( education, income and occupation), gender, marital status, etc. influence their coping
