My name is Cyle Wolfe, I am a senior at the University of Maryland College Park, and it is my belief that there is no issue being discussed today more important than our supply chains and how they can be improved. The world is giving more attention to the supply chain sector now than at any point in recent history with a dire lack of professionals in the field and an even more pressing need for them. I am a major in supply chain management and developed an interest in the study through my fascination with history as well as through the experiences I had with my family’s business growing up. Through it I developed basic skills in inventory management and procurement via my responsibilities which included sourcing products and keeping records of stock. This provided me with a foundation on which to build my knowledge of industry practices and processes as I complete my degree program, through which I have learned how to better perform such tasks. Supply chain management is a science like any other and I have gained an understanding of the relevant mathematical concepts and the theoretical basis behind it. If I were to return to the same business, I would be able to perform with greater precision and in a larger company be able to manage high level processes such as demand forecasting and network design. I have a keen interest in the impacts of the sector outside of the economic sphere and how it can more positively impact society. To this end I am pursuing a minor in sustainability to gain a better understanding of how environmentally friendly practices can be applied to business. I want to collaborate with corporate leaders who emphasize effective supply chain in their model and be able to use what I have learned to make the company that I work for better, in turn improving the lives of its stakeholders, which include society at
