My name is Riley Rieck and I recently enrolled in your class. I did this because my other class (Bio150) was not a necessary science class to get a business major and was only for students looking at a science major. If you feel we need to meet and talk about the materials I missed I would be happy to. I also want to mention that the Bio126 lab will not fit into my schedule. So will that have and affect on me in this class?
Abstract Eric Edgar Cooke the ‘Night Caller’ has struck Perth with murder, stabbings, hit-and-runs and burglaries which during 1931-64 until his death. Due to a neglected childhood with a alcoholism father and bullying Cooke’s murderous out take on the world and random killings not only make his next target difficult to find but also Cooke himself. Studies on Cooke have shown his psychopathic styles of killing are not only unique but also the work of a ‘Nedland monster’ in Perth district. As Cooke was physically and emotionally abused from childhood he discovered his getaway through disassociation and imagination, obtained in order to boost his low self-esteem through self-aggrandisement, fumed against the society that ostracized him, thus
With cap cuts coming, are the Steelers scouting a new middle linebacker at the combine? As I wrote in one of our past prospect watches, the Steelers could draft a middle linebacker in the mid-round of this year’s draft. Lawrence Timmons is owed over $15 million and his production has slipped over the past few seasons. One of the most decorated middle linebackers in this draft is Scooby Wright out of Arizona.

While doing research for my history fair project, i ran into a very important guy that isn 't really spoken about today. This man name is Fred Hampton, and he was born August 30,1948 and killed December 4, 1969 right here in Chicago, IL (democracynow.org). Although it happened right here in our city, not many know about it and that really concerns me. He was raised in Maywood. He graduated from Proviso East High School in 1966 before he enrolled at Triton Junior College where he studied law.
As a junior I was selected to attend the UC Davis COSMOS program. COSMOS is a four-week summer program organize to give educational experience to determined students. I devoted myself at learning as much as I could from the program which developed confidence, maturity, and understanding in my personal life. Through this, I realize how the world itself is replete with many different obstacles, and it is not as black and white as people usually see it in high school. COSMOS gave me insight into the microbiology of bacterial diseases, but also gave me tools for my post-high school
The Civil War was America’s bloodiest war. Soldiers were not only dying from battle itself, but from the daily practices the military had in place. Medical care and response was lacking organization resulting in many preventable deaths. In 1862 this all changed with the appointment of Medical Director Jonathan Letterman, who focused on how soldiers were being treated both on and off the battlefield. Jonathan Letterman was crucial to the Union’s victory because he advanced civil war medicine and made it more accessible hence why his gravestone describes a man “who brought order and efficiency into the Medical Service and who was the originator of modern methods of medical organization in armies" (Arlington National Cemetery).
Dr. Carter G. Woodson, born in New Canton, Virginia, is one of the first African-Americans to receive a doctorate from Harvard University. His worked centered on exploring the depths of African American history. As a published historian and founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (later the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History), Woodson lobbied and encouraged schools to participate in programs that cultivated the study of African American history. Have you ever wondered to yourself what the future holds? What technology will be invented, or how we will get around? Harrison Bergeron tells a story about the future; not one of flying cars and robots taking over, but rather equality. In this futuristic essay it is described that people have certain advantages over other people according to looks, strength, and intelligence. However the government wanted everyone to be equal to one another to lessen discrimination.
Single Paragraph Essay “ Harrison Bergeron ” “ Harrison Bergeron ,” written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. focuses on equality — physically andmentally — strongly controlled by the government in the year 2081; the beautiful are forced tolook ugly, the physically skilled are required to wear weights. With these handicaps makingeveryone so equal, the world became very different, odd, and average. But the government hasno right or reason to push the whole world to be “…equal every which way.” (203) To suppress someone’s natural looks or physical talents is not only wrong to natural human rights, but it is also illegal, and for very good reason: everyone is different.
Michael Gordon Peterson is not a person you'd ever want to find yourself stuck in a room with. You'd best never call him by that name or he will break your teeth and hold you hostage and make absurd demands as a joke. According to this monster of a man, Michael Peterson died. Bronson's the name now. Charles Bronson.
Individuals breathe life into a society, they shape it with their ideas and beliefs. However, when these beliefs become corrupted, do individuals have the power to change it?. In the short stories “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, and the theories of enlightenment philosophers, individuals can not change society. Tessie Hutchinson from “The Lottery” tried to persuade her village that the long-standing tradition was wrong, but faced death soon afterwards. On the other hand, Harrison from “Harrison Bergeron,” tried to overthrow society's ideas, through atrocious actions.
The story, Harrison Bergeron really shows the importance of diversity and for every individual to have a right to be unique. The government trying to make every thing completely fair is actually unfair to people who can 't get any excitement in a world like this. Limiting peoples thinking will also strongly slow any advances in technology, maybe even to a stop, so they might never solve some of the very important problems they face. Same with strength, if someones is in danger to an animal or a malfunctioning machine they will need to be able to escape. So really a world thats completely fair is impossible to create.
In the year 2006, the Stolen Valor Act made it illegal to make medals of Honor. The case brought forth to us describes issues brought about by this act. In United States v. Fields, Abel Fields attended a meeting where he proclaimed that he had military experience, and that he earned a Purple Heart. He had made false statements, and in turn was convicted, and had to pay a $1,000 fine. Fields felt that his First Amendment rights had been violated.
Most likely, one has heard about the story of Pocahontas and John Smith. However, John Smith was not as loving and kind as he was portrayed. In the letter Address to Captain Smith, the speaker, Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas’ father, takes a condescending tone and addresses to the English settlers, especially John Smith, how the chief’s generous hospitality has not been appreciated. Literary devices such as rhetorical questions, antithesis, and repetition, diction, and pathos and ethos are exercised by Chief Powhatan to address his purpose and produce it as impactful as fully possible.
