Here, Lizabeth’s father is disappointed in himself for not being able to find a job for 22 years. Maybelle, his wife, tried to rationalize
It’s the most natural characteristic of a father. Although Scott’s piece is a bit pessimist and concerns with his father’s problem more but deep look at E.B white’s piece makes us realize that he too was too obstructed by his father and both writers are trying to become better versions of their father. W.B white however is in confused feeling about himself, his son and the lake as the lakes takes him back in time but the only thing that makes him feel responsible is his own son and he is struggling with feelings of taking care of his son and be his own son whereas Russell became his own father in early age because his father was never around him, drunken sleeping on a chair with dragon’s breath; he grew up to hate him and is more responsible than he should’ve been. He constantly lives in regret of how his father treated his family but both the writers are more than concerned about their children and cannot leave them like their fathers did. Both the writers are connected by bond of fatherhood but most important is the feeling of responsibility both have, even when they are in their phase of lives where they are enjoying their life at fullest but they feel this responsibility to be a good father as they wanted to see theirs.
Mattie’s and his relationship grow stronger and stronger as the story continues. He is a crucial mentor to her and they become very close. Grandfather was responsible for teaching Mattie the fundamentals of life. Lucille Cook is Mattie’s mother. She is a single parent and Mattie’s main authority figure.
Through digging deeper the readers know learned what is was like growing up in the McCandless household. Chris McCandless and his sister, Carine, lived with Walt McCandless, their father, and Billie McCandless, their mother, in Virginia. Carine McCandless explains how their parents, “[...W]orked all the time,” (Krakauker 107) and how it was very stressful for them, because their parents had just started their own consulting firm. Chris and Carine McCandless became very close when growing up because they, “[...L]earned to count on each other when Mom and Dad weren 't getting along,” (Krakauer 107). McCandless was very protective of his sister and would hold her hand, and he even waited for her after school so they could walk home together.
This change has occurred after traumatic events in Matt’s life. Matt Fowler was viewed in his community as a man of higher importance who managed the branch office at the town bank. He is a man who obviously works hard to provide for his family. Additionally, he provides well enough that his family can afford a vacation to Florida each year. However, the reader can also take the opinion that he is unwilling to take his mother’s suggestion of how educational a trip to Tennessee could be for his children; therefore, he must be an unbending tyrant of a son, husband, and father. In view of these two characters, one can see similarities that bind these two together as mother and son.
There are a lot of different stereotypes regarding fathers. The range from embarrassing their children, to spending a lot of time at work. People think most fathers live up to this expectation. In my opinion I don’t think Garp lives up to this stereotype, he has his own way of doing things. Even though Garp does relate to the stereotypical father in some ways, he usually does things out of the box in comparison.
This shows that the dad is running away from his problems instead of trying to fix them.
The resemblances of his father’s existence reversed. The father begins work and receives a complete renewal, as the leader of the family. The mother finds her own sense of self without the worry and doubt. While his sister matures into woman all while molting her innocence and naivety. While the initial metamorphosis is repulsive to his father who literally tries to thrust his son back into the room after the discovery, and the confusion of his mother, it is Grete who takes on the motherly role for her older brother.
In the movie, it is shown that her father is a sweet and loving father but he has problems with being an alcoholic. It is also shown in the movie that she has a close relationship with her father. This may also be evident on how they have similarities especially in terms of being imaginative and a bit of a dreamer. Their family had a problem when her father was fired from his work that they need to transfer residence.
In “Only Daughter” by Sandra Cisneros, she describes a series of events throughout her life that all relate to her relationship with her father. Cisneros begins her story by talking about how she was seen as “only a daughter”. She then transitions to talking about her education and her father’s opinion on what it is for and worth. Cisneros then ends it with a conclusion between her and her father which involved one of her stories. Throughout the story, Cisneros talks about what she believed her father thought about her and her career choices, and they turn out to be a bit different than what she thought.
The son himself follows more of his mother’s personality, because he always thinks ahead. This is evident by the quote “…bothered teachers for homework assignments far ahead of their due dates so I could draw up schedules.” This shows that the son thinks ahead and likes to plan for the future, a characteristic he shares with his mother. The fathers care free, go with the flow personality is exemplified by his multitude of last runs.
