The novel follows a man named Nick while his friends and family experience different hardships. One person in particular stood out from the rest of the characters, his name was Gatsby. Gatsby was a rich man who was neighbors with Nick. Gatsby was in love with Nick’s cousin, Daisy. Daisy was married to a man named Tom who was cheating on her with a woman named Myrtle. Gatsby, knowing Nick was related to Daisy, recruited Nick into getting himself and Daisy back together. All Gatsby wanted was to be seen as high-class, so he wanted to marry Daisy. Daisy wanted to marry rich, “She wanted her life shaped now, immediately—and the decision must be made by some force—of love, of money, of unquestionable practicality—that was close at hand” (Fitzgerald pg. 151).
