Gatsby's dream was to win Daisy's love. He believed he could accomplish this by means of his wealth and position. He failed, not because he was killed, but because Daisy, whose love remained with her husband Tom, couldn't be fascinated with material things. In some ways, the perfect example of the American Dream is the idea that anyone can rise to any position in society if they put effort in and try hard enough. In some ways, Gatsby manages this, going from his poor background to the social height of the Eggs. Gatsby manages the American Dream, but corrupts it, rising through drugs, smuggling and deals with gangsters.Throughout all this, his love for Daisy remains the same.
