In Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby the themes of love,lies, deceit ,and new/old money are played around with a lot.He uses them in the storylines of daisy,nick,gatsby,tom,and myrtle. During the chaos of their marriage, the deceit of tom going around with myrtle,and nick knowing about it.Also the way the daisy secretly loved gatsby and gatsby being very new money ,while tom was very old money. These themes make the book the way it is.Let us begin. The theme of love and lies appears periodically throughout the entire book. The theme mostly goes to Daisy, Tom, Gatsby,Myrtle,and Wilson. Gatsby randomly met a rich man on a boat and became friends with him. Then when he died he took the money the old guy left him and invested in different things and became a bootlegger. So, during prohibition he made a killing and got connected to a lot of higher ups in the .. Darkness.Then he lied to everyone about how he got his money. Like he made up this elaborate story to cover up his way of coming into it, so people would think of him higher up. So on one side i can see why he did it, but on the other…. He, of course, is from old money so he thinks he is better than everyone. Even though he is as low class as it gets. Just as far as i know he has kept his money due to his family. The American Dream in the book “The Great Gatsby” is portrayed in a way that is not achievable. The only way you would be able to get it is if , in Gatsby's case , to go the illegal route. While in Toms case, you come from very old money and somehow have buckets of it.So, Gatsby was trying to get daisy to love him in order to have the life he wants.
