In the 1920’s, everyone strived for this idea of the American Dream, which established a perfect life, but the thought is not all it is cracked up to be. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is the story of a mysterious millionaire, Jay Gatsby, told in the voice of Nick Carraway. This is a story about eccentric parties, affairs, and long lost love. Jay Gatsby has benn in love with Daisy Buchannan for a long time, but there is a twist; Daisy has a husband, Tom. Tom is also having an affair with Myrtle, who is married to George Wilson. It is just several big love triangles. Tom is responsible for Gatsby’s death because his affair with Myrtle weakened his and Daisy’s marriage, is extremely jealous and critical of Gatsby, and convinces George Wilson to avenge his wifes death. …show more content…
Daisy knew of Toms affair and clearly was troubled with the thought of it. She had lost all trust in Tom and the hope that they could salvage their marriage. Tom says, “I suppose the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from nowhere make love to your wife.”(Fitzgerald130).
