In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, the character responsible for the death of Jay Gatsby remains a mystery. The Great Gatsby, set in the 1920s, recollects the story of a man, Nick Carraway, and his experience as Jay Gatsby’s neighbor. Gatsby throws extraordinary parties in order to catch the attention of his love interest, Daisy Buchanan, who he once dated and happens to be Nick’s cousin. However, Daisy is married to Tom Buchanan, but he is cheating on Daisy with Myrtle Wilson. When Nick brings Daisy to one of Gatsby’s parties, Gatsby and Daisy begin to rekindle their relationship, yet it is more one sided than mutual.
Throughout The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald problems occur and end in Gatsby's unfortunate death. The group of people Gatsby “hung” out loved to party and have fun. The Great Gatsby is a 1920’s novel narrated by Nick Carraway, following his time in New York City and Long Island. In the novel, Nick’s neighbor, Jay Gatsby is murdered by George Wilson. Gerorge acts in revenge for the death of Myrtle, his wife. Myrtle Wilson is a mistress of Tom’s who had affairs hidden from their partners. Although Mr. Wilson committed the crime, Gatsby and Tom Buchanan are responsible for Jay Gatsby’s death.

Daisy Buchanan is the real person to blame because she lead gatsby to believe she would leave Tom for him and because she should have admitted to her mistakes. Fitzgerald uses his characters to perfectly convey the theme of secrecy and treachery. What makes this theme so important is that it creates the plot of The Great Gatsby. It’s what makes the story so exciting and heartbreaking. Without Daisy telling the truth that she drove the car that killed Myrtle, Gatsby would not be dead. If Tom had not cheated on Daisy with Myrtle, George would have never hit her, or found out about the affair.
Gatsby uses the last five years of his life trying to achieve his one goal of obtaining Daisy as his wife and spending the rest of his life with her, but what happens to him instead is unexpected and undeserved. Jay Gatsby got shot and killed by George Wilson. Gatsby did not sleep with Myrtle, he is an honorable man and would not sleep with another man’s wife. Gatsby also did not kill Myrtle, if he did he would have stopped the car and not just kept driving. Daisy did not talk to Gatsby ever again after the accident.
In my opinion, Tom is most responsible for Gatsby’s death. I believe that Tom is most responsible because Tom forgot to tell George that Daisy was the driver of Gatsby’s car the night Myrtle was hit by it. Tom forgot to tell George that because him and Daisy were plotting this out. I could tell something was up when Nick refers that “Tom and Daisy talking in the house(146). I also think that Daisy is a little bit responsible because she took on some bad morals when she hit Myrtle because she could have stopped the car after she hit Myrtle.
Gatsby’s dreams and aspirations in life are rather interesting and amazing as he goes about his life in the book. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald helps highlight the social, moral, and political issue that were very present during the 1920’s and today. Gatsby is the focus of the book as before the book began, he was an ex-soldier who came to wealth by some rather illegal ways. Daisy a married woman is his person of interest, who was his ex-lover 5 years before the book started. Gatsby’s actions, and words demonstrate a clear obsession with Daisy that seems to have no end.
“And I hope she’ll be a fool-that the best thing a girl can be in this world,a beautiful little fool” (Fitzgerald 17). The Great Gatsby is kind of reflecting off of F. Scott Fitzgerald actual life. In 1922, which was called the Roaring Twenties, it was a “ party century” some would say. The Great Gatsby goes into a theme of wealth, love and living the “American dream”. Daisy is to blame for Gatsby’s death because of how selfish she was, she never told anyone she was driving and led Gatsby on.

In the court of law there’s only one person who was responsible and guilty for the murder of Jay Gatsby. Although in the eyes of god there was more than one person responsible for the murder or had the ability to stop the outcome of the murder. Weather it was Tom being honest about his affair, Daisy doing the right thing and stopping during the accident or Jay Gatsby himself by taking control of the situation and doing what was good for both Daisy and himself instead of just what 's best for Daisy. Tom, Myrtle, Daisy, and Gatsby were selfish and self centered leading them to become Morally responsible for the death of Jay Gatsby.
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I believe that Daisy is to blame for Gatsby’s death. This claim can be proven through Daisy’s continuous affair with Gatsby despite Tom’s suspicions, Daisy selfish nature, and the fact that she killed Myrtle herself and let Gatsby take blame. For example, Daisy’s continuous affair with Gatsby despite Tom’s suspicion was one of the factors in Gatsby’s death. One example of this is when Nick witnesses “Daisy’s face was smeared with tears, and when I came in she jumped up and began wiping at it with her handkerchief” (89).

The entirety of The Great Gatsby is told through the narrator, Nick Carraway. At first, Nick views the lifestyle of Jay Gatsby, Tom Buchanan and Daisy Buchanan in awe, but soon discovers that these people are not who they appear.
