Guns: Safety or Danger
89% of unintentional shooting deaths among children occur in the home. Most of these deaths occur when children are alone and playing with a loaded gun. These accidents happen in younger children because they are not aware of the dangers that a gun can do. Although guns have some risks for dangers, they can make a life or death difference in the home. Guns are used over 2.5 million times a year for self defense (“Guns Save”). Guns are kept in the home due to the fear of intruders and attacks. In fact, one out of three homes have at least one or more guns (“Gun Safety”). Having guns in the home would provide a better chance of safety for the members of the household. People should be allowed to have guns in their homes; however, they need to be more aware of the possible dangers that may occur.
Sadly, the causes of unexpected gun accidents involving children are multiple. Most often, the reason for the danger is lack of prevention. Many parents do not take the necessary steps to ensure their children's safety. Parents fail to notice that the major causes of these accidents can be easily prevented.
