Sudan is the largest country in Africa. For many years there has been conflict between the northerners and southerners in Sudan. There has always been deeply rooted problems with self-identity, issues over natural resources and bad governing by the Sudanese government. Several have speculated what caused this “strong-armed” major conflict. Many spectators feel that this conflict was the result of the long history of ethnic insignificance and a decline in land resources. The conflict is a combination of issues such as: economic factors, political issues and conflicts regarding status or occupation in the community. In 2003, Darfur exploded with violence. The Sudanese army was attacked by rebels but was not taken seriously. The government decided on a ruthless approach by exploiting the differences in the ethnicities while turning them against one another. …show more content…
The Janjawid went on a campaign to kill all non-Arab people. This group killed 300,000 Darfurian’s in cold blood and 2 million were displaced. Sudan is not the only country that are dealing with major conflicts and no one knows when this will end. The National Counterterrorism Center (2011) reports described patterns of terrorism around the world in 2010. Per that report, there were approximately 11,500 domestic and international terrorist attacks recorded in 72 countries around the world. Over 13,200 people lost their lives as a result of these attacks. (pg.92)
The world had not witnessed such a destruction in one country in many years. The cost to the community has been enormous with the conflict causing death to thousands and millions of displaced refugees. The displaced people deal with torture, rape, crippled bodies and psychological
