Both the original short story and the radio play adaptation of ‘’Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed’’ tells the story of the Bittering family and what happens when they move as colonists to Mars. While the stories are similar, each medium uses unique techniques to engage the audience. In the original text, Bradbury relies on vivid imagery and character dialogue to tell the story and develop a suspenseful mood. In the teleplay play the music in the background makes the mood mysterious and it also gives you the suspense. This means that the radio play shows us the emotions of the characters. This also can make the reader’s mood turn into interest since the music is mysterious. For example, in teleplay, they play different music or increase the volume of the music to show shock or to show suspense. This means that the music creates the mood because they change the flow of the music to show something important happened in the teleplay. This also means that the teleplay creates the mood by giving us different volumes to show what happened. In the teleplay, we can hear the tone of the characters, and with that, we can use that to determine their emotion. This means that since we can hear the characters talking we can know how they are feeling because of the tone in their voice. This also means that if the character is stuttering we can tell they are nervous or scared since that is the tone of their voice.
