Daughter of the Lake is a film that shows the life in a tiny village in the Andes that has been run dry due to gold extraction. The mine extracts not only the gold, but also the village’s water supply. Water is an important resources for for everyone in the village and, for selfish reasons, villagers are being raped of their resources. The director was able to show the great impact of their water source going away by focusing certain cinematic shots on wells that have run dry and on their land that now looks dry and arid.
