Most heroes are determined and courageous. Frederick Douglass once said, “I remained firm...reaching new york without any interruption(SB 71).” Which meant that he was determined to spread the word to the world about slavery and no one could stop him from doing so. Also, another hero Odysseus showed determination and courage when he blinded the cyclops to get out of the cave. “We took the red hot stake and twisted it round and round like that in his eye(SB 33).”
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout, Calpurnia, and Atticus stand out when courage comes to mind. These characters show courage in many unique ways with different situations. In the early 1930s, in the deep south, racial discrimination was a huge conflict, for example, the Jim Crows Laws were in play, and it legalized segregation between blacks and whites. Courage isn’t always shown in situations, but simply throughout growing up.

Kush Garg Matthew Soucy H-English/AP-World History September 26, 2015 Ishmael: Change is Impossible After reading the book Ishmael, my mind has been expanding on the main topic of the book which is why we can’t change society because whenever we try to advance change just adds onto the destruction we are causing to our world. While I was reading this book, I began to learn more about how we are destroying our world even more. When humans lived in a simple manner, believing that they lived in the “hands of the gods,” evolution was destined to happen because humans had to adapt to their environment. This evolution sparked the problems that would come later in history, like deforestation, social inequality and pollution.
The novel, The Kite Runner, tells a story about two incredibly strong and courageous boys, who have to find their way back from a dreadful thing which they thought they could never forget. The two boys are guided by their father, Baba, who is also looking for forgivness in himself. In the end, all of the boys find redemption for their wrongdoings. One of the boys, Hassan, shows extreme courage from the very beginning of the book.

The hero in this story has sailed from his home to fight this evil being named Grendel, a monster that has become a nuisance in Herot.
