Dawn believes that the woman before us have done a lot of the hard work, such as gaining civil rights. She stated that her mom was among the first set of women to receive birth control during and that she remembers what a big deal this way at the time of the first feminist wave. Although that the rights for a woman have greatly increased since then in the second wave of feminism that she lived through, she believes this third wave is still necessary. She expressed that she believes there is still a long way to go in order to attain gender equality. Last November, Dawn went to a woman’s march in her community and quickly realized she knew nothing about the feminists of today. Her motivation for going to the movement was to hear women speaking up against Trump and his views on feminism. However, what she was was women in pussy hats and she started to question if she was indeed a feminist. In the second wave of feminism, there were also these more radical feminists that were portrayed as “bra-burners” and “man haters,” and that the media used this opportunity to exploit the feminist movement and portray it as something negative (Kreydatus, 2008). Just as the Cult of True Womanhood, influenced several later generations, I believe that this negative view of feminism that arose in the 1960s is still influencing the feminist movement today. Because of this, women like Dawn, who believes in female equality, are resisting to identify as feminists. I think it is important to recognize the struggles that women are faced with inequality. However, I think it is even more significant to remember that not all women face inequalities. These women should not be victimized or criticized for their lack of experiencing inequality, but rather supported so that they can offer a strong voice for change for the women who cannot speak up. Furthermore, these strong women who have been lucky enough to pursue their lives are the ones that are likely unaware of the issues surrounding inequality. These women should be educated and made aware so that they can advocate for the women who
