The French Revolution was a representation of a time period that was significantly important regarding its social, political, and economical effects. There needed to be social order in the French Revolution in order for it to strive for liberty, equality, and fraternity. Furthermore, the revolution was also a representation of conflict and political issues. Within the French Revolution was the Committee of Public Safety. The Committee of Public Safety was tasked to protect the Revolution from its enemies in order to maintain the stability it needed. Using the Decree Against Profiteers, it had been used to stop those profiting from the revolution, because the committee believed that others took advantage of the instability of the revolution. “Those convicted of making false declarations likewise shall be punished with death. Public officials who protect monopolists shall also be punished with death” (Document A: Decree Against Profiteers (Modified)). [The false declarations elaborated on establishing the price for goods that were traded by merchants and traders. Anyone who was found making a false declaration regarding the prices of goods would have endured severe punishment, which may lead to death. The Decree Against Profiteers did not only target those who messed with the prices of goods, but it also applied to those who were protected monopolists and profiteers. However, it was be argued that it was impactful for stabilizing prices and preventing famine across the country.
