Deviance describes any action or behaviour that violates cultural norms. The characterization of deviance results not so much from the behaviour of individuals but more so to how society reacts to those actions. Cultural variability is exemplified by the behaviours of the Deadheads, a subculture orientated around following the band the, "Grateful Dead". The subculture of Deadheads is a form of deviance that is perpetuated by the daily interactions between members of society, thereby demonstrating the social-interaction approach.
