Being Deaf Can Be Turned into Something Good
Obstacles, which are important part in our lives, often blocking us from reaching our goals and discouraging us. Thus, most people think that hardships are bound to apply negative influence on us. Certainly, obstacles frequently make it harder for us to achieve, but when we look back, we will find that obstacles give us beneficial experience and push us to accomplish our objectives. Deaf people have many obstacles and disadvantages. Deafness can be turned into something good by using communication methods, by ability to drive, and by having some blessings for being deaf.
The first thing is many centuries ago, because of the loss of speech, deaf people were viewed as deaf and dumb. Although they couldn’t hear themselves or others, some deaf people were forced to try to speak. Deaf people feel disconnected when everyone is chuckled at a humor, and they do not get the punch line. Deaf people feel that way when they’re adjoined by hearing people. In reality, hearing people might not realize that being deaf is a blessing. For example, when a group of deaf people sitting in their chairs, talking to each other right next to an opened window with noisy background such as lawn mower or motorcycle running, it does not bother them. Another example is at night some hearing people may have a hard time sleeping due to loud thunders or snoring while deaf individuals may be able to sleep peacefully. The now common football game huddle was the first initiated at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., the world’s only liberal arts college for the deaf, where scholars are taught especially by ASL.
