A Dead Man’s Mission War is a harsh element to endure, especially when your life you can expect your life to be over quick if you land the job of the ball turret gunner. Randall Jarrell wrote The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner is with he addresses a certain roll on a bomber plane that was known to be the deadliest place to be. The position was the ball turret gunner, this is a bubble on the bottom of a bomber plane where a man would hang upside down with a turret gun ready to shoot down any enemy planes trying to shoot down the bomber plane. The problem with this is being upside causes blood to flow to the head with usually lead to fainting. This happen when teenagers lie about their age so that they can go to war a defend there country. This is very apparent in the poem where it says, “From my mother sleep I fell into the state.” (Line 1). The gunner in this position was upside like a baby in a mother womb. And because the space where the men had to be was so small many of the young men had to do this job because they were the only ones that could fit. Oftentimes the military would known that the man was not a man but a teenager, yet still they ignore it because there was no one else that size to take the spot. In another article online suggests, “Volunteers are ready to employ on a mission”. (William).these teens would volunteer for the military and many of them died.
