In If I Die in a Combat Zone, author Tim O’Brien argues that the Vietnam War was unjust by expressing his disapproval of the war through his own moral beliefs, sharing the descriptions of deaths in Vietnam of the innocent citizens, and by describing how much the war impacted himself and others negatively. In the beginning of the book, O’Brien openly stated his beliefs on the war. He believed it was wrongly accepted and unjust, but he battled his own opinions with society’s views anyway (18). Constantly, O’Brien discussed within his own head about the true definition of bravery and courage (147).
Everybody goes through hardship even Native American boys on the spokane reservation except this boys hardship is way harder than most people. This story is about the personal story of a Native American boy who overcomes bullying, grief, and poverty to become more then then the people around him. First off the character Arnold Spirit Jr had so many bullying experiences in this story it wasn’t even funny, so i thought bullying would be a good topic to talk about in this essay. The first bullies talked about in this story are the Andruss brothers, they were thirty year old men who bullied a teenager. In the story the Andruss brothers were introduced shortly after Arnold and his bestfriend Rowdy arrived at a powwow near thier home.
The Essence of Betrayal The American Revolution was a war of principles fought between the loyalists who believed in neutrality, peaceful negotiation, against treason, and against loss of land. War is an evil that can destroy nations, but without it, there is the potential for even more chaos in our imperfect world. Many wicked and corrupt institutions throughout history have been stopped by wars, further advancing society. Detrimental repercussions of combat, such as destroyed homes or lost lives, are justified by the anticipation of a better future. In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead, by James and Christopher Collier, Tim Meeker must decide if war is worth the bloodshed and loss to secure freedom for himself, and for America’s posterity. By the end of the story, the ironic deaths of Ned, Life, and Sam contribute to Tim’s decision to remain neutral.

Against The War 1775 “Have you ever seen a dear friend lying in the grass with the top of his skull off and his brains sliding out of them like wet oats?,” The authors of the book “My Brother Sam Is Dead” believe that they are against war. They clearly state reasons why they are against war. The book shows how war divides loyalties within a family. It also shows how war cause huge arguments of generation and the principles versus reality as well. In this book, although both sides of the war are shown, author's Collier and Collier ultimately argue that war is futile.

Literature that touches on a wide range of topics and themes make for excellent novels. Allowing a literary work to have multiple messages creates a greater opportunity for the reader to relate, in turn, allowing it to flourish. Cold Sassy Tree, written by Olive Ann Burns in 1984, set in an early 1900s Georgia, does a phenomenal job of relaying multiple themes to the reader. The book Cold Sassy Tree is successful because of the character’s confrontation with the concepts of death, love, and religion. The book Cold Sassy Tree centers around Will Tweedy, a fourteen-year-old who is undergoing an abundance of change.
The United States criminal justice system is the practice of the government upholding social control, prevent crime, and to penalize those who violate laws. The system however, does have many flaws throughout its policies and how it is run. A major flaw in the system is when people are wrongly accused of a crime that they didn’t commit. We see multiple examples of this in the novel Just Mercy by author Bryan Stevenson. Two of those being the case of Walter McMillan, and the case of Diane Tucker.
War is a series of sacrifices used to resolve an international dispute. Choosing a side will show your beliefs and principals. Injustice causes war and war induces violence and destruction of nations. Freedom costs many lives, so a better future is ensured for the next generations. Authors James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier accurately portray war as an expectation and reality through the novel My Brother Sam is Dead.
